Koning Willem I College
Stichting Regionaal Onderwijs Centrum Noordoost-Brabant, also known as Koning Willem I College, is an institution for secondary vocational education in Noord Brabant, in the south of The Netherlands. We provide education in four cities in our region; in all VET-sectors with the exception of agriculture and aviation. We also offer adult education and courses for newcomers. Our school recently merged with another VET-provider in our province, ROC de Leijgraaf. We now have about 18.000 students and 2.000 staff members.
Koning Willem I College is accredited by Erasmus, as was former ROC de Leijgraaf. Before that, both colleges were
Erasmus Charter holders with broad experience in KA1 and KA2-projects.
Courses are provided by teams that are dedicated to a specific sector and profession. We also have dedicated teams that provide remedial activities for students experiencing obstacles in their regular courses. Apart from that, there is a student service center for students with special needs, both educational and non-educational.
Koning Willem I College is member of the worldwide Unesco Schools Network.
Motivation
Earlier this year, Koning Willem I College was the first VET-school to sign the Declaration of Intent on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. By signing, Koning Willem I College reinforced awareness for accessibility and inclusion and continued the course towards stronger inclusive education.
Both Koning Willem I College and merge partner ROC de Leijgraaf identified Fewer Opportunities as a special target group in their international strategy and have done so for several years. We have created tailor made mobilities for students belonging to this group, resulting in over a hundred FE-mobilities every year. However, we still see room for improvement, especially among students with disabilities.
