New report on inclusive mobility for VET Students with disabilities

We are proud to announce the publication of the IMVET research report and accompanying infographic, an important milestone in the Inclusive Mobility in VET (IMVET) project. In this report we highlight important insights on making international learning mobility more inclusive for VET students. The research was carried out through desk research and focus groups with students and VET professionals in Spain, Greece, Estonia, Finland and the Netherlands.

The report, titled “Inclusive Mobilities for VET Students with a Disability”, explores the barriers that VET students with disabilities face when participating in international mobility programmes, such as internships or study visits abroad. Based on extensive literature review and focus group research across five countries—Estonia, Greece, Spain, Finland, and the Netherlands—the report also highlights the needs and challenges experienced by VET professionals in organising accessible mobilities.

Key findings reveal that students with disabilities continue to be underrepresented in mobility programmes, despite the immense personal and professional benefits these experiences can offer. Challenges range from a lack of accessible information and funding, to difficulties in finding inclusive host organisations and ensuring appropriate guidance. However, the report also shows that with targeted preparation and support, mobility abroad is both possible and highly rewarding for all students.

The infographic provides a clear overview of the identified needs of both students and professionals, such as:

  • Timely, accessible information and pre-departure guidance for students;
  • Flexible mobility formats and clear communication on funding;
  • Professional development and support networks for educators and staff;
  • Institutional collaboration and inclusive policy-making.

The IMVET project, funded by Erasmus+ (Key Action 220), continues to build on these insights by developing practical tools, such as a self-assessment instrument and guidelines for VET institutions. These resources aim to support professionals to create inclusive and accessible mobility opportunities for all students.
